The nights come to us singly

The nights come to us singly by Forem
Unohdetut runot, Osa 1: Yksin meillä yöt tulevat
Forgotten poems, part 1: The nights come to us singly

My final degree work, part 1 of the three parts. The all three parts took me 8 weeks to finish. The first two weeks I was waiting for the correct paper I wanted. The last four weeks I was working daily and the last 21 days to the grand opening I worked literally about 12-16 hours per day :D. But this was worth it.

Watercolours and salt on paper
Frames: pinewood and wood stain
Size with the frame: 126 x 222 cm

The text in the painting is from Kalevala, the Finnish national epic. The English version can be found from the internet. Here is the part of the poem in the painting:

"Noin kuulin saneltavaksi,
tiesin virttä tehtäväksi:
yksin meillä yöt tulevat,
yksin päivät valkeavat;
yksin syntyi Väinämöinen,
ilmestyi ikirunoja
kapehesta kantajasta,
Ilmattaresta emosta.
Olipa impi, ilman tyttö,
kave luonnotar korea.
Piti viikoista pyhyyttä,
iän kaiken impeyttä
..."

Kalevala, 1 runo, säkeet 103-115
Kalevala, 1st poem, verses 103-115

It's gothic. I don't mean dressed-in-black-&-oh-so-blase kinda goth, but _really_ gothic. Medieval, yet there is more. Am thoroughly impressed.

Putting in 12 to 16 hours per day...Jeez, I wish I could do that consistently. You got brass, girl!
